Our story has roots that go back well into the 19th century . . .

The start of our story goes back to 1865 when the first steps were taken to set up an enterprises to provide work, support and education for men and women with visual impairment.

This enterprise resulted in what was to become Royal Dundee Blindcraft Products, latterly known as Blindcraft. About sixty years later, in the 1920’s, a Lord Roberts Workshop was established in Dundee to provide employment for disabled ex-servicemen. In the early days of Lord Roberts, toys were a major part of the business, later developing into an expertise for crafted furniture.

These organisations worked independently for many years until 1993. The then local authority recognised that both charities needed new buildings and that they had many commonalities. Dovetailing the two charities together formed Dovetail Enterprises (1993) Ltd.

Our charitable status has and continues to be fundamental in securing long term employment and training for those disadvantaged in the workplace due to disability.

Today we continue to offer work placements to enable people to move into full-time employment.

As a Supported Business, Dovetail are a registered charity that is proud of its role in providing employment and training opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged members of society.

Based on Dunsinane Avenue, Dundee a 100,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility, purpose-built for those with disabilities opened in October 1993. Today, you will find an extensive range of products on display in our showroom.
